B. B. King and the blues through Live at the Regal
Blues was originated in the earliest 20th century in the deep South of the United States. It developed from shouts, chants, narrative ballads, work songs and spiritual songs. The blues music has its habit to showcase the feelings through melancholic vocals and lyrical content. There are a wide range of sub-genres developed under the blues genre, including Delta Blues, Piedmont Blues, Jump Blues, Chicago Blues and Electric Blues. The genre itself influenced many other genres such as jazz, R&B and Rock & Roll.
B. B. King was an American singer and guitarist who had a major part in the development of blues. He was influenced by the gospel music in church, later he started to work as a disc jockey where he acquired the name B.B. (Blues Boy) King. The creation of “Three O’clock Blues” as a hit record made him start his career by touring throughout the country. He recorded the album “Live at the Regal” in 1964 in Chicago. His continuously growing carrier can be attributed to his showmanship, fabulous guitar playing and the way he told a story fuelled with feelings through his shows.
Live at the Regal: This album is a live album that was recorded at the Regal. It is a collection of B. B. King’s music that was performed at that specific night. They recorded the album with the audience, so we can clearly hear the interactions during the show. It showcases one of the most important aspects of the blues music.
