Unfiltered energy and low budget
production defines Punk music
Punk Rock: Unfiltered, raw, simplistic, aggressive and brash – this is how we can refer to Punk Rock. The lyrical content channels political issue, rebellion, individualism, radical politics and populist slants. Punk Rock’s origins come from the time when its ancestor Garage Rock was adopting a rougher sound. From the snotty ramshackle vocals to the more confrontational yelling, Punk Rock has a wide range of vocal styles. Some of the bands considered as “Proto Punk” are The Velvet Underground and MC5. Later, joined the Ramones and the Sex Pistols.
The Ramones band was formed in early 1974 with members: Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, Tommy Erdelyi. For their image, they were wearing black leather jackets and straight-legged blue jeans. The band demonstrates that sometimes the purest form of expression is the most revolutionary. Their unfiltered, raw energy became the main stylistic base for the Punk music. They have become one of the most influential Punk Rock bands in history, without them there would be no Nirvana, Metallica or Green Day.
Ramones: As some critics may claim, the album’s unfiltered energy came out as necessity, because they were on a low budget, and they spent only a few days with recording in studio. However, it surely underscored the main characteristics of the Punk Rock genre. This is one of the reasons people count this album as one of the bests. The album theme focuses on the disillusionment of youth, such as boredom, rebellion, suburban dissatisfaction, frustration, adolescent desires and dark humour. Even though the album was commercially unsuccessful at its age, without this album the alternative music would not exist.
